There are many varieties of the eyebrow piercing.  If you have or are considering having this type of piercing, there are some basis fundamentals regarding piercing that you should be aware of.  This highly popular type of piercing is not for everyone.  There are several aspects to learn about and keep in mind before deciding to go ahead and have it done.  Once done, it is strongly suggested to learn about what to expect and how to care for your new piece of jewelry.  Having a place above your eye to add jewelry is usually a great feeling for those who love shine and sparkle.

Having an eyebrow piercing is, as you can imagine, quite different than having your ears done.  The ear adapts quite well to a piercing and as long as you follow directions and keep the area clean as it heals, you can quickly be wearing your favorite earrings.  Then if you wish, you can go on to having numerous piercings on your ears  This type of piercing is usually done in jewelry stores and the person who does it for you will most likely only had to earn a certificate that shows they are aware of and follow guidelines to keep the process clean and healthy.

If you decide to have a piercing done above your eyes, you most likely will need to go to a tattoo parlor.  Many tattoo parlors also have areas where piercing is done.  There are some shops that are specific to piercing.  The important aspect is to never do this on impulse.  If you are brave enough to do it today, you should be brave enough to do it tomorrow, if it is something that you truly want.  So, you should give it a bit of time and think about what will be involved.

First, you should think about your work or future work.  Many offices have policies against certain piercing.  You should check with your human resource person and/or read over the employee handbook.  If there is a rule against it, ask if you can wear a clear holder while at work.  This means, that once the piercing is healed, you can purchase a clear holder that will be placed into the hole where the ring or barbell usually sits, and this will hold the hole open so that it does not begin to close while at work.

While ears can go without earrings for quite a while without earrings, a piercing above your eye can close in a day!  This is important to keep in mind.  You do not want to pay for this and also experience the pain if it is going to be allowed to close. 

Having an eyebrow piercing is a bit painful for most; although relatively speaking, it is quite bearable.  It can bring a rush of adrenaline to your body and some people actually find this quite addicting.  The process only takes a very short amount of time. 

In most cases, a larger bar bell or ring will be placed in the hole while the piercing heals.  Then, once healed, you will have an option to replace it with just about any piece you wish.  Barbells and rings, are the most popular.  Many can be engraved, adorned with gems and come in a huge variety of colors so that you will have many choices to look unique with your piercing.

There is no rule about how many one should have and what is appropriate. Some choose one, some choose two over one eye and one over the other.  For females having this done, this usually comes as an afterthought to the piercing: It may very well get in the way of your makeup.  Be prepared for that; you can work around it, but know that it will change the process of how you put on your eye shadow and even perhaps which color eye shadow you wear.
